National Running Day Challenge!

Hey, friends!  Welcome to the National Running Day Challenge, co-hosted by the bodacious Tara.  Check out her post today to read more about the Challenge and see what great goodies she’s giving away to a lucky winner!

Wait, I’m getting ahead of myself, goodies?!  Yes, that’s right – goodies!  For all who sign up and participate in the challenge, which will take place on June 2, 2010, there will be a drawing for prizes!

Tara is giving away this:

I am giving away this ($10):

and this:

So, not only do you have National Running Day as motivation to get out and run on June 2, you also have the allure of great loot x 2!!

What do you have to do, you ask?  Run a 5K?  Run a mile?  Well, we wanted to encourage as many people to participate as possible – rookies and old hands alike.  So for this challenge, you set your goal.  The only requirement is that is must involve running on June 2, 2010.

I am going to run a mile as fast as I can, and then I’m going to go on to run a 5K. Tara will have her own goal.  And y’all will have your own goals, too.

New to running?  Maybe your goal will be to get out for 3 miles and run 60 seconds at a time sprinkled throughout your workout.  Maybe you’ll run a mile, a 5K, or a 10K.  Maybe your running goal will be to do it barefoot or to PR (personal record) at a particular distance.  Whatever it is, let us in on your plan.  And on June 2, come back to tell us how you did.

Here’s what to do to win:

  • Comment here about what you’re going to do to participate;
  • Follow me on Twitter and tell me about it in another comment;
  • Link to this contest on your Twitter or blog and tell me about it in another comment;
  • Come back on June 2 to let us know how your NRD commitment went!

Everyone who does any combination of the above including reporting back on the June 2 National Running Day post will be entered into a drawing to win the above-pictured loot.

So, what’s your running challenge going to be?  Do tell…

    My training schedule on June 2 has me running 3miles. So my challenge (within those limits) is going to be running one mile as fast as I can. Warming up for a mile, running the middle mile as fast as I can, and then cooling down with the last.

    I’m not sure how I found you, but I’m so glad you did! Your blog is beautiful!

      Krissie, thanks for the compliment on my blog – Ryan at revivemyblog.com did it for me and I love it!

      Thanks for joining the challenge – I look forward to following your blog!

    OK-I’m in!
    June 2…I’m going to challenge myself to RUN at least 2 miles in my 3 mile daily workout (which has had more walking than running in it lately!)!
    Post it note is on the treadmill!
    :)

    Love the new site – long time reader, first time commentor here! I’m in for June 2 – I’m going to try to run 2 miles in under 20 minutes!

  4. Kassie May 26, 2010 at 7:50 pm #

    My June 2 run (my mom’s birthday) is a quick 15 minute run per my training calendar. Maybe I’ll throw in an extra 5 minutes for National Running Day.

    I am REALLY excited for running day, and a giveaway is just icing on the cake! It works out well that it falls on one of my regular running days anyways :)

    That day will be week 7 day 2 of couch to 5k for me, which is a 25 minute run. I’m pledging to do the full 25 minute run without stopping for a walking break, and that I’ll run at least 2.5 miles during that time, keeping my average mile time at or under 10 minutes!

  6. Runnergirl May 27, 2010 at 12:12 am #

    Given that that’s a week away, I’m going to challenge myself to run 9k interval training in as near to 50 minutes as I can.

    It should be a national holiday. Yeah – I think it is. I’m taking off work. Three day work week here I come.

    I’m going to run a mile as fast as I can- I haven’t ran in awhile because I’m an elliptical freak but in 8th grade I ran a mile in 8:40 lets see if I can do that again.

    Hi SRG! I’m a little late off the mark for the challenge, but I’m getting my plans together for Wednesday’s big NRD! My plan will be run 5K, I’m aiming to run it the fastest I have to date.
    If I’m feeling really ambitious on Friday, I may even match your game plan and run a mile too!
