Playing for Keeps

In all the weight loss blog reading I’ve been doing lately, one theme seems to be cropping up a lot.  It’s the idea that we have to accept that this stuff we’re doing, the eating healthy, working out, getting enough sleep – we have to do it FOREVER to lose weight and keep it off.

A great quote I saw on SparkPeople once goes like this:

Being overweight is hard
Losing weight is hard
Maintaining is hard
Pick your hard Continue Reading →

What, am I Supposed to Feel Like Crap?!?

In my first post I talked about something I’m calling BBDD – Backwards Body Dismorphic Disorder.  Basically, I have the opposite problem as many other people; I feel in my heart/soul/mind that I am healthy and fit when, in reality, I am healthy and fit for my size, but seriously overweight.  How overweight, you ask?  I need to lose about 100 pounds.  I currently weigh 251 pounds.  My highest weight?  298.6.  It breaks my heart and boggles my mind to say that “out loud.”  I can’t believe I let it get that far, that bad.  What was I thinking?  Well, I was thinking, “It’s not that bad, I carry my weight really well, and I’m pretty active, and surely I don’t look fat, so it’s all good.”

One of my Favorite Blogs – Escape from Obesity

I promised I’d share some of my favorite weight loss blogs with you all, so here’s the first:

Escape from Obesity is the first weight loss blog I discovered, through the recommendation of a friend.  I am consistently amazing by Lyn’s honesty about her struggle to lose weight.  Her life is insanely busy – lots o’ kids, absent husband (I think he works out of town a lot?), joint disease, etc.  But she doesn’t give up.  AND, she doesn’t quit blogging when she’s struggling.  Which includes right now.  She’s gained a bit of weight back over the last few months, but she keeps trying, and she keeps blogging.  What guts.

Lyn, thanks for your blog – I can’t wait to watch your journey and your future success!

Throwing my Hat in the Ring

Hello, world.

Welcome to my nifty new blog!  First I’m going to tell you a bit about myself.  But I’ll start at the end and work backwards.

I’m here because over the last couple of weeks, I’ve discovered the wonderful, heartbreaking, inspiring, honest, challenging, and creative world of weight loss blogs.  You know who you are (and just in case you don’t, I’ll be posting links in the near future!).  All you folks out there who post before photos, are honest about your weight, share when you have a face-plant into a pint of Ben and Jerry’s, and yet never give up and keep striving to reach your goal.

I’m here to say I’m one of you.  Well, except for the blogging part!  I want to share my journey with you, to encourage and be encouraged, to challenge and be challenged, and to make a record of what will be, in the end, an epic journey to health, longevity, and rediscovering my inner athlete.
